Surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is crucial for a long lasting bond. Suggestions for surface preparation may be found on the current edition of the appropriate Sika\u00ae Pre-treatment Chart. Consider that these suggestions are based on experience and have in any case to be verified by tests on original substrates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"productcontent\">\n<div class=\"cmp-product cmp-product--padding-right\">\n<h3>Application<\/h3>\n<p>Apply the adhesive with a suitable caulking gun. Take care to avoid air entrapment in the joint.<br \/>\nSikaflex\u00ae-545 can be processed between 5 \u00b0C and 40 \u00b0C but changes in reactivity and application properties have to be considered. The optimum temperature for substrate and sealant is between 15 \u00b0C and 25 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>Consider that the viscosity will increase at low temperature. For easy application, condition the adhesive at ambient temperature prior to use.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure a uniform thickness of the bondline it is recommend to apply the adhesive in form of a triangular bead (see figure 1).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.shop.sika.com\/pimimages\/h0c\/h2e\/8881651580958.png\" alt=\"01-en-triangular-bead-oval-1000\" \/>\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<p>Figure 1: Recommended bead configuration<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sikaflex\u00ae-545 can be processed with manual, pneumatic or electric-driven piston guns and pump equipment. The open time is significantly shorter in hot and humid climates. The parts must always be installed within the open time. Never join bonding parts if the adhesive has built a skin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"productcontent\">\n<div class=\"cmp-product cmp-product--padding-right\">\n<h3>Tooling and finishing<\/h3>\n<p>Tooling and finishing must be carried out within the skin time of the adhesive. It is recommended to use Sika\u00ae Tooling Agent N. Other finishing agents must be tested for suitability and compatibility prior the use.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"productcontent\">\n<div class=\"cmp-product cmp-product--padding-right\">\n<h3>Removal<\/h3>\n<p>Uncured Sikaflex 545 can be removed from tools and equipment with <a href=\"\/product\/sikaremover-208-entferner-34288\/\">Sika Remover 208<\/a> or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically.<br \/>\nHands and exposed skin must be washed immediately using hand wipes such as Sika\u00ae Cleaner-350H cleaning towels or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water.<\/p>\n<p>Do not use solvents on the skin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"productcontent\">\n<div class=\"cmp-product cmp-product--padding-right\">\n<h3>Overpainting<\/h3>\n<p>Sikaflex\u00ae-545 can be best painted within the skin formation time. If the painting process occurs after the sealant has built a skin, adhesion could be improved by treating the joint surface with Sika\u00ae Aktivator-100 or Sika\u00ae Aktivator-205 before the paint process. If the paint requires a baking process (&gt; 80 \u00b0C), the best performance is achieved by fully allowing the sealant to cure first. All paints have to be tested by carrying preliminary trials under manufacturing conditions. The elasticity of paints is usually lower than that of sealants.
